UC & CSU GPA Calculator — Capped A–G Average

Estimate a UC or Cal State a-g GPA. UC uses 10th–11th grade with up to 8 honors points. CSU includes 12th grade and allows only 2 honors points from 10th. Not the official application GPA.

UC uses 10th and 11th grade only, including summers after 9th, 10th, and 11th. Up to 8 honors points, and no more than 4 of those from 10th grade. A C- does not get the extra point.

UC capped GPA

14 grade points + 2 honors points = 16 ÷ 4 semesters

Without honors points: 3.5. Honors used 2 of 2 eligible semesters (10th-grade cap 4, total cap 8).

How it works

Choose UC or CSU. For UC, choose California resident or nonresident.
Add one row per semester of an a-g course. A year-long class is two rows.
Mark approved honors, AP/IB, or a college course. The result shows capped honors points and the GPA.

Formula

GPA = (letter points + capped honors points) ÷ semester grades. A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0. Plus and minus are ignored.

Example: Four UC semesters: A regular, A honors, B+ AP, B regular. Letter points are 4+4+3+3 = 14. Two honors points apply. GPA = 16 ÷ 4 = 4.00. Without honors points it is 3.50. Letter cut-offs use the unrounded result.
